Abstract

In variable speed wind turbines, power maximization produced is inevitable. For this reason, new robust MPPT techniques have been developed. Optimal Torque Control (OTC) is one of the techniques the simplest used in this field. The latest offers maximum torque for a particular wind speed, in order to maximize the output power of (WECS).This paper proposes a new configuration (MPPT-OTC) based on the artificial neural network (ANN) in order to improve the conventional OTC method based on PI. The proposed technique (OTC-ANN) has been validated on a variable speed wind turbine using a permanent magnet synchronous generator connected to the network through MATLAB Simulink. The simulation results prove the superiority and effectiveness of the proposed technique in terms of response time and robustness compared to conventional (OTC-PI) techniques.
