Abstract

Shear walls are the main lateral force resistant components of building structures. The position and shape of openings seriously affect the performance of shear walls. Thus, this paper adopts the vibration mode quantification identification method based on orthogonal theory, which takes the lateral displacement resistance, ductility and local bending characteristics of shear walls as performance indexes. Meanwhile, the indexes are quantified by the fundamental natural frequency, shear deformation proportion and the bending coefficient of wall limbs. The performance of shear wall with staggered or eccentric opening is analyzed. The lateral displacement resistance of the shear wall with regular opening is smaller than that of the shear wall with irregular opening. The ductility of the shear wall with regular arrangement at the opening is relatively higher. The lateral displacement resistance, ductility and local bending characteristic of shear walls with symmetrical opening are better than those of shear walls with asymmetrical opening.
