Abstract

Abstract There is a big challenge in policymaking relating to plastic management in Vietnam: Vietnam is the one of the biggest global dischargers of plastic waste into the ocean, but the country also has a high demand for plastic for economic development. Recently, Vietnam has adopted the National Action Plan for the Management of Marine Plastic Litter by 2030. According to this Plan, Vietnam would take a circular economy approach in dealing with plastic. This article reviews Vietnamese regulations to prevent the pollution from plastic waste to see whether they support the implementation of the circular economy approach in plastic management and whether they are effective in preventing plastic waste pollution. Based on the review, recommendations are made to strengthen Vietnam’s legal retgime for the prevention of pollution from plastic waste.
