Abstract

This is an overview of the state-of-the-art in the field of starch-based materials, incorporating recent research to provide a comprehensive look at developments involving novel materials. The properties of materials, and the fabrication techniques used, for starch- based bio nanocomposites are addressed here. Nanomaterials with high aspect ratio have significant potential for use as reinforcement in a starch matrix. Good adhesion between starch and fillers is essential to enhance properties. Fabrication methods, properties and applications of starch-based intelligent pH sensitive films and carbon dots are also discussed. Further, different drying methods, morphology, and thermal, mechanical and thermal conductivity properties of starch-based aerogels are highlighted. This polysaccharide is considered to be among the most prominent biocompatible and environmentally friendly precursors for the synthesis of advanced materials.
