Ammonia capture with ionic liquid systems: A review
Jie Tian, Baoyou Liu
Abstract
In the past a few years, ionic liquids (ILs) have attracted enormous interest from scholars and researchers in the field of NH3 separation due to their unique properties, such as negligible vapor pressure, high chemical and thermal stability, tunable acidity and selective dissolubility for gases. In this paper, the structure and NH3 solubility of pure ILs, supported ILs and IL analogues were analyzed and summarized. Moreover, the intrinsic mechanisms of NH3 capture by ILs are analyzed based on molecular simulation and experimental characterization. The transport properties, prediction model, process optimization, influence factors and economic analysis are discussed which provides basic and valuable information for engineering amplification and industrial application of ILs. Furthermore, the future research trends and development potentials are also prospected from multiple perspectives.
