Dihalo bismuth cations: unusual coordination properties and inverse solvent effects in Lewis acidity

Abstract
Dihalo bismuth cations show an unusual pentagonal bipyramidal coordination geometry with a stereochemically inactive lone pair. Their relevance for the Lewis acidity of BiX 3 is discussed.
