The global burden of fractures
Jane A. Cauley
Abstract
The Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) is a systematic scientific effort to quantify the comparative magnitude of health loss due to disease, injury, and risk factors by age, sex, and geographical region.1 In The Lancet Healthy Longevity, the GBD Collaborator Network describes for the first time the absolute number of new and prevalent fractures, the incidence and prevalence rate of fractures, and the number of years lived with disability (YLDs) after fractures from 1990 to 2019.
