Transformerless High-Voltage Resonant Charging Systems for Capacitive Energy Storage Devices for Electro-Discharge Technologies

Abstract

Conditions for the usage of power resonant systems for charging the capacitorstorage devices of the pulse current generators are determined. Fulfillment of these conditions allowed to reduce installation's mass and size characteristics by removing the high-voltage transformer. The chargers based on an industrial frequency converter and a transistor voltage inverter using a high-frequency resonant circuit as a voltage boosting element for electro-discharge applications are proposed and researched. Their simulation modeling and experimental tests were carried out, which showed the improvement of the specific energy characteristics of the charger up to 2 kg / kW.
