Abstract

According to the global statistical report by WHO(World Health Organisation) over 3000 accidents are occurring per day in India. Bone fractures have become very common nowadays due to the increase in accidents. Locating the fractures in a bone is very crucial to treat the patients with bone breakage. Sometimes within short time fractures has to be identified to go for further surgeries in critical cases. X-ray images are preferred for identifying fractures in a body. Even though the advancement in medical imaging with MRI and CT scan, X-Ray images are the choice of most due to its low price and fastness compared to others. The objective here is to automate the bone fracture detection. This paper proposes an effective Computer-Aided Detection(CAD) For extracting the features and extracted features used for identifying edges, and fractures and also corners in an image, an effective Harris corner fracture detection algorithm is proposed. For this 500 X-ray images of bone are taken from OMNI Hospitals, Visakhapatnam. An accuracy of 94% is achieved which is better than any other automated fracture detection technique which helps the orthopedics to detect the fractures firstly with a minimal error rate and further helps in fastening of decisions for surgery.
