Abstract

In this paper, Moth flame optimization (MFO) technique is used for the optimal placement of flexible ac transmission system (FACTS) controllers for efficient operation as well as reduction of the transmission losses in the power system under various loading conditions. The aforesaid approach is implemented on standard 14 bus systems and the results obtained are compared with symbiotic organism search (SOS) algorithm and particle swarm optimization (PSO) based approach. The locations for installation of FACTS controllers are chosen by estimating the line power flows. The comparisons between these three techniques are presented in this paper to show the efficacy of the suggested approach.
