Abstract

To simulate the manufacturing process of gear skiving, a plane-based penetration calculation is used. With given gear, tool and process data, the simulation is able to provide characteristic process values, for example chip thickness or cutting length. In order to validate the manufacturing simulation, the simulation results are compared against the outcome of the actual manufacturing of gears based upon skiving. The characteristic process values are validated by comparing chip geometries and tool wear to the simulation results. Furthermore, the simulated gear geometry is compared to the manufactured gear.
