Abstract

5G is the latest global wireless standard, known as the fifth generation of cellular mobile communication technology. Compared to 4G LTE, 5G increases peak data rates and connection densities tenfold, while reducing the latency to one-tenth (see <xref ref-type="fig" rid="fig1" xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">Figure 1</xref> ). This not only enhances user mobile experiences but it also creates exciting opportunities in the development of new technologies, e.g., vehicle-to-everything, and machine-type communications. The time is ripe for many commercialized products and services to ride the wave of unparalleled high-speed connectivity and minimal latency enabled by 5G.
