Abstract
This study presents the computational analysis for determining the fatigue resistance of five different auxetic honeycombs made of aluminium alloy AA 5083-H111: (i) A Chiral auxetic structure, (ii) A Star-shaped auxetic structure, (iii) A S-shaped auxetic structure, (iv) A Double arrowhead auxetic structure and (v) A Re-entrant auxetic structure. This research is based on the authors previous work, where the computational model for the fatigue analyses of the auxetic structures was built and validated. For the fatigue life calculation, the strain life approach was applied, with consideration of a Morrow mean stress correction in the framework of the ANSYS software. The computational analysis was performed in a displacement control regime at different amplitude strain levels. The computational results have shown that the chiral and star-shaped auxetic structure demonstrates a higher fatigue strength if compared to the other auxetic honeycombs.
