Abstract
The anomalous behaviour of Eu 3+ emission quenching on cooling is explained using experimental/theoretical approaches involving off-resonance excitation. Based on this, a highly sensitive CaTiO 3 :Eu 3+ ,Er 3+ phosphor ( S r = 4.9% K −1 at 83 K) was designed.
