Abstract
gem-Diborylalkanes are important intermediates in organic synthesis, and in recent years various strategies for the preparation of these compounds have been developed. This review summarizes methods for the synthesis of gem-diborylalkanes based on diborylation, hydroboration, dehydrogenative borylation, boryl migration, and substitution. Specific reactions covered include the borylation of gem-dibromides, alkenes, vinylboronates, alkynes, benzylic C—H bonds, carbonyls, carbamates, diazo compounds, alkylmagnesium bromides, and alkenylmagnesium bromides. Selective derivatization of 1,1-diboryl motifs in gem-diborylalkanes has become a vital strategy for useful synthetic transformations.
