Abstract

This study aims to determine the various potentials regarding the use of medicinal plants from upstream to downstream which are owned by Indonesia and looking at the potential for the utilization and processing of medicinal plants in other countries. Using the literature study method, it is known that this nature has a lot of biodiversity which has the ability as a medicinal plant that can cure various diseases but provides a small risk that can threaten human life. Some differences were found, but only on the factor of naming, processing/utilization, treatment procedures that were motivated by culture, environment, beliefs and customs as well as the conditions of the area where medicinal plants were produced. In general, the benefits provided are almost the same and have been tested pre-clinically and clinically to be able to cure several diseases and are considered capable of coexistence with conventional medicine with a small risk that threatens human life. Further research and development on the use of medicinal plants for the sustainability of human health, but it must be considered the sustainability of the existence of medicinal plants in the future because overuse will damage biodiversity, so it is necessary to apply some proper conservation and cultivation strategies so that these medicinal plants do not threaten the biodiversity by Indonesia in the future.
