Switching excitons between the emissive and photochromic pathways in the triphenylethylene system

Abstract
The competitive decay pathways between photoluminescence (PL) and photochromism were reported here. By tuning steric hindrance, crystal TrPEF 2 TMS exhibited a strong PL but weak photochromism, whereas TrPEF 2 H showed the opposite properties.
