Abstract

A safe and sustainable system for hydroxycarbonylation of alkenes with HCOOH using RhI(CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 catalyst and R 4 NI promoter was developed. We also found that the key intermediate, RhHI 2 (CO)(PPh 3 ) 2 , can catalyze this reaction without any promoters.
