End Poverty in All Its Forms Everywhere
Graham A. Davis
Abstract
SDG 1 seeks to eliminate the global incidence of extreme poverty, in all its forms and dimensions, by 2030. Income poverty is the aspect of poverty that is most widely measured, and which provides a definitive target against which to measure progress. Given that business-as-usual policies are expected to reduce income poverty from its current rate of 8.6% of the world’s population to only 6% by 2030, achieving zero income poverty by then will require directed poverty-reducing strategies. Mining’s most promising role within this strategy is through an increased demand for local inputs via backward linkages at existing and new mine sites.
