A review on current status of antiviral peptides
Abid Qureshi
Abstract
Antiviral peptides have emerged as promising candidates for combating viral infections due to their potent activity, low cytotoxicity, broad-spectrum efficacy, novel mechanisms of action and low likelihood of inducing resistance. This review provides comprehensive details of the current landscape of antiviral peptides, encompassing their sources, mechanisms of action, design strategies, therapeutic applications and future prospects. Various types of antiviral peptides and their modified versions targeting diverse viral pathogens are outlined. Additionally, challenges associated with the development and clinical translation of antiviral peptides are discussed. Overall, this review aims to offer insights into the burgeoning field of antiviral peptides and their role in combating viral infections.
