Abstract
MXenes demonstrate exceptional potential in photocatalytic applications due to their abundant active sites, outstanding electrical conductivity, and adjustable structural configurations. This review focuses on MXenes for photocatalytic applications, presenting a systematic examination of their distinctive advantages, advanced modification approaches, and fundamental mechanisms in photocatalytic redox reactions. The research progress and current status of MXene-based materials in the field of photocatalysis are systematically analyzed, the key factors affecting photocatalytic efficiency are dissected, and the scientific challenges and potential modification strategies for current systems are identified Furthermore, from the complementary perspectives of MXene as co-catalyst and main catalyst, clarify the fundamental principles and scientific challenges of MXene in photocatalytic reactions. Then, an in-depth analysis of the MXene modification strategy is conducted to enhance photocatalytic performance, emphasizing the precise regulation of catalytic performance through the design of composite materials via synthetic methods. Finally, several problems faced by Mxene-based materials in photocatalysis are proposed, and the difficulties that need to be overcome. This study outlines future research directions for the field of photocatalysis, identifies critical challenges and pressing issues that require focused attention in developing MXene-based photocatalytic materials. Providing a reference for the design and environmental governance application of efficient MXenes-based photocatalytic materials.
