An Overview of Waveform Design for Integrated Sensing and Communication

Abstract

Integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) can achieve radar detection and communication transmission at the same time based on software and hardware resource sharing. It can effectively improve spectral efficiency, hardware efficiency and the information processing efficiency of the system. In this paper, we systematically introduce the development of ISAC, then sort out and summarize the research status of ISAC waveform design. Starting from the coupling level of existing waveform designs, we focus on summarizing the research progress of tightly coupled technology in the waveform design, i.e., communication waveform-based technology, radar waveform-based technology and dual-function waveform technology. We also briefly point out the future research directions and challenges in this field.
