Dark exciton preparation in a quantum dot by a longitudinal light field tuned to higher exciton states

Abstract
The authors propose a scheme to excite the dark exciton ground state in a quantum dot, based on the use of a longitudinally polarized laser pulse to excite an energetically higher exciton state exhibiting a strong mixing of bright and dark spin configurations.
