Abstract

Abstract Glass is a material with a rich history and a bright future. Due to its outstanding properties and its versatility, it is a key material in many applications. In this paper, we present a variety of these applications in which glass is playing, and will continue to play, a significant role, including communication technologies, the semiconductor industry, advanced displays, mobile consumer electronics, healthcare, and automotive. Other critical considerations enabling continuous progress in glass science and engineering, such as improved modeling tools and characterization techniques, increased sustainability of the glass‐making process, and talent development, are also discussed.
