Abstract

Bi-continuous phase polymer composite materials have garnered significant attention in the realm of advanced functional composites owing to their unique dual continuous structure and multifunctional properties. They served as a versatile platform for the incorporation of functional fillers, enabling the enhancement of polymer composite materials in terms of both performance and multifunctionality through diverse filler distributions. This article provides a succinct overview of the construction of bi-continuous structure. Next, the factors influencing filler selective distribution in bi-continuous phase polymer composites were discussed, covering polymer matrices, fillers, and fabrication methods. It further explores the classification of various filler distribution types. Following that, we present typical application scenarios across diverse fields, including electrical and thermal conductivity, flame retardancy, and energy storage. Finally, we discuss current challenges and outline prospective development opportunities.
