Submerged comminution of lithium-ion batteries in water in inert atmosphere for safe recycling

Abstract
Lithium-ion batteries are crushed in lime water in an inert N 2 atmosphere to inactivate them. N 2 flow reduces the risk of hydrogen explosion, and water absorbs the reaction heat.
