Abstract

This article presents a low phase noise voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) adopting optimization colpitts with gm boosting techniques. The excellent performance of the VCO core adopts a phase noise of -123.4 dBc/Hz at 1MHz offset frequency and output power of -6.67dBm from a 5.73 GHz carrier with a 4.7mW power consumption, achieving in an excellent FOM of -191.84 dBc/Hz and displayed by FOMT of -194.61 dBc/Hz. The proposed folded-current mirror mixer produces a conversion power gain of -3 ~ 0.8 dB, input P1dB of -6 ~ -4 dBm, IIP3 of -1.4 ~ 1.8 dBm, LO-RF isolation of 30 dB, respectively. The overall prototypes of colpitts oscillators with folded-current mirror mixer have been fabricated in tsmc 0.18μm CMOS 1P6M process and implemented from supply voltage of 1V.
