Abstract
• We highlight limitations of obtaining behavioral information via self-report methods. • We point to solutions for different research goals in environmental psychology . • Behavioral traces and trained observers allow recording naturally occurring behavior. • Behavioral paradigms allow studying consequential behavior under controlled conditions. • Observations of manifest behavior can help validate measures of person characteristics.
