Abstract

Hypoeutectic Al–Si alloys are widely used due to its excellent castability, corrosion resistance and mechanical properties. Its corrosion resistance is limited by the presence of coarse Si particles. Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes is a powerful alternative to overcome such problems. Although mechanical properties of samples produced by AM have been extensively researched, corrosion resistance has received much less attention. In the present paper, Selective Laser Melting (SLM) was used to obtain cubes of AlSi10Mg using two different growth strategies. Corrosion properties are compared both the stress relief thermal treatment and the growth strategy for the manufacturing of the alloy.
