Abstract
End-on bridging dinitrogen binding to U( iii ), Ln( iii ) and Ln( ii ) is favoured for the iron-bound N 2 compared to free N 2 , resulting in increased N 2 activation with increasing Ln Lewis acidity with a back-bonding contribution only found for U( iii ).
