Abstract

In this article, a miniaturized surface sun-star antenna has been presented to meet the requirements of a wide frequency band. During the antenna design phase, the concept of the propagation part is inspired by the combination of the sun and star. The coplanar waveguide has been selected as a 50-ohm feed. The configuration of the patch and the feedline of the proposed antenna has been constructed with gold. They have been placed on a polyimide substrate. This structure has a compact physical dimension of 4050000 µm 3 . The results of the simulated antenna, including the S 11 parameter, radiation pattern, surface current distribution, and gain have been investigated. This investigated antenna covers a frequency range from 372 GHz to 683 GHz for S 11 ≤ −10 dB with a bandwidth ratio of 1.84:1 and a fractional bandwidth of 59 %. Moreover, the far-field results in the frequency band depict an omnidirectional pattern with a radiation gain of 5 dBi and 93 % efficiency.
