Abstract
Nowadays, the operation of conventional transformers is becoming a little bit complex due to their nonlinear core characteristics and unbalanced load. With huge power-electronics advancements, designing Solid State Transformers (SST) has become easy. Space factor, different frequency power transfer flexibility, and smoothness are major factors in the selection of the SST. SST also overcomes conventional transformer issues like the core's nonlinearity, oil leakage, and huge size. There are different techniques used in SST to transfer power from one to another circuit. This article presents the basic idea and functionality of three-phase SST. Different stages of SST are enlarged with selected current control techniques. The harmonic-based analysis is also given here with hysteresis, fixed frequency & d-q current control techniques. Different control circuits are also elaborated with a diagram using MATLAB validation. 3-phase circuit diagrams for different strategies are developed in MATLAB software and compared for THD-based analysis.
