Abstract

Heterocycles have maintained their popularity among researchers in all these years due to their important activities in pharmaceuticals. Several reports on the synthesis of heterocycles including coumarin, pyran, oxazole, and thiazole for drugs have been published. The O-heterocycles are present in drugs like rantidine, doxepin, and paclitaxel. Various diketones such as β-diketones, 1,3-diketones, 1,4-diketones and dicarbonyl compounds play a vital role in synthetic organic chemistry and are used in the synthesis of core heterocyclic compounds. This review article covers the syntheses of O-heterocycles from dicarbonyl compounds.
