Manganese oxide as an alternative to vanadium-based catalysts for effective conversion of glucose to formic acid in water

Abstract

MnO x was used as a vanadium-free catalyst for conversion of glucose to formic acid in water with 81% yield in which α-scission (C1–C2 bond cleavage) with arabinose being an intermediate was found to be the major conversion pathway.
