Abstract
Perinatal depression and its health impact Fast FactsMaternity care typically prioritises pregnancy outcomes, often sidelining women's mental wellbeing. Results from our nationwide, population based, matched, cohort study in Sweden showed increased mortality over 18 years among women who were clinically diagnosed with perinatal depression. These findings underscore the imperative need to deepen our understanding of the health consequences of perinatal depression, especially over the long term.
