Abstract
One of the major impacts of climate change on society is the amplification of damage caused by climate-driven natural hazards (IPCC 2012 ). This insight, articulated more than a decade ago, represents a real concern today, as we are experiencing threats posed by hydrometeorological hazards in real time. Extreme events, such as floods with catastrophic consequences, roads and railways closed by debris flows and rainfall-induced landslides, forest fires, and other impacts of climate-driven hazards, seem to be in the news every day.
