Abstract

The radiated emissions from a photovoltaic (PV) system can be potential interference sources to nearby electronic devices. This article proposes a novel black box approach to estimate the radiated emissions in the frequency range of 150 kHz–30 MHz. By extracting the power converter as a “radio frequency (RF) noise source black box” and characterizing the PV panel with its connecting dc cable as a “radiation black box,” the radiated emissions from any PV system can be easily estimated without prior knowledge of the internal details of the PV panel and the power converter. Using a commercially available PV system as a test case, the validity of the proposed approach for the radiated emissions estimation in the frequency range of interest has been verified experimentally.
