Abstract

Abstract The production of $$K^{0}_{S}$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>K</mml:mi> <mml:mi>S</mml:mi> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math> mesons in inelastic p+p collisions at beam momentum 158 $$\text{ GeV }/c$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mspace/> <mml:mtext>GeV</mml:mtext> <mml:mspace/> <mml:mo>/</mml:mo> <mml:mi>c</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> ( $$\sqrt{s_{NN}}=17.3$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:msqrt> <mml:msub> <mml:mi>s</mml:mi> <mml:mrow> <mml:mi>NN</mml:mi> </mml:mrow> </mml:msub> </mml:msqrt> <mml:mo>=</mml:mo> <mml:mn>17.3</mml:mn> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> $$\text{ GeV }$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:mrow> <mml:mspace/> <mml:mtext>GeV</mml:mtext> <mml:mspace/> </mml:mrow> </mml:math> ) was measured with the NA61/SHINE spectrometer at the CERN Super Proton Synchrotron. Double-differential distributions were obtained in transverse momentum and rapidity. The results on $$K^{0}_{S}$$ <mml:math xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <mml:msubsup> <mml:mi>K</mml:mi> <mml:mi>S</mml:mi> <mml:mn>0</mml:mn> </mml:msubsup> </mml:math> production are compared with model predictions ( EPOS 1.99 , SMASH 2.0, PHSD and UrQMD 3.4 models) as well as with published world data.
