Abstract

Here we present the results of our solubility study of the sodium hypochlorite–sodium chloride–water system. The solubility diagram of the NаClО–NаCl–H2О system has been constructed at temperatures in the range from –38.0 to 65.4°С based on experimental data on the boundary binaries and eight inner sections. Of them, sections I–IV originate from the NаClО–H2O side toward the NаCl–H2О corner and sections V–VIII originate from the NаCl–H2О side toward the NаClО–H2O corner; the crystallization fields of ice, NаCl·2H2О, NаCl, NаClО·5H2О, NаClО·2.5H2О, and anhydrous NаClО crystals are demarcated in the diagram. The new compound NаClO3, as identified by X-ray powder diffraction and IR spectroscopy, is formed in the title system involving NаClО and NаCl aqueous solutions.
