Abstract
Hybrid nano fluids offer a potential scope for abundant heat transfer applications in engineering, owing to synergistic effect of dissimilar characteristics of different nano materials in base fluid. In the present study, total six samples of hybrid nano cutting fluids were prepared in varying concentrations. Thus, fluids were subjected to characterisation after sedimentation test and tested their applicability in machining under MQL mode. Increase in thermal conductivity, specific heat and viscosity were observed with increase in concentration of CNT/MoS2 nanoparticle in sesame oil. Pin on disc test confirmed that the coefficient of friction was decreased with increase in particle concentration up to 2% by weight beyond that slightly increased. In machining, 2 wt% concentration of CNT/MoS2 hybrid nano cutting fluid has shown better performance in reducing the cutting forces, temperature, surface roughness and tool flank wear compared to other concentrations.
