Abstract

Abstract TiO 2 nanoparticles doped with Ag have been prepared by Sol‐gel route. Prepared materials were characterized by various characterization techniques. The phases of prepared samples were confirmed by X‐ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman analysis and the single phase anatase structure of TiO 2 was identified. Spherical shape nanoparticles were observed in High‐resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR‐TEM). Optical absorption and Photoluminsescence (PL) measurements were carried out to find the energy band gap and recombination rate of charge carriers respectively. The photocatalytic activity of prepared samples was tested on Indigo Carmine (IC) dye as an organic pollutant under visible light irradiation. Improvement in degradation efficiency was observed with an increase in Ag concentration. Degree of mineralization of IC‐dye after photocatalytic activity was studied by total oraganic carbon (TOC) analysis.
