Abstract

The foremost goal of automatic generation control (AGC) is to yield electrical generation within the specified limits of voltage and frequency deviation to the users. To accomplish this goal, this paper proposes a proportional (P) plus integral (I) plus double derivative (DD) (PIDD)controller fine-tuned with grey wolf optimizer (GWO) for two-area system with diverse sources. However, the efficacy of proposed PIDD controller performance is deliberated by comparing with other controllers of PI/PID and PID with filter (N) (PIDN) by subjugating area-l with a load change of 0.01MW. To improve the system dynamical performance further, superconducting magnetic energy storage (SEMS) device is placed in both the areas and the unified power flow controller (UPFC) in tie-line with series. Investigation reveals the substantial contribution of SMES and UPFC in mitigating the system oscillations under load disturbances.
