Abstract
The practices of carbon capture, storage, and utilization have the potential to reduce CO 2 emissions and the global temperature increase it causes. In this review, an examination of the various types of solvents utilized in absorption capture processes is conducted, including physical solvents and chemical solvents such as amines, deep eutectic solvents, ionic liquids, non-aqueous solvents and their blends. The chemical nature and absorption mechanisms of the different types of solvents is reviewed. Then, thorough examination of the solvents’ fundamental thermodynamic and transport properties, including viscosity, diffusivity, heat capacity, density, and phase equilibrium, is undertaken, reviewing several references, comparing the measured data and its most important findings. The final outcome of the absorption process performance is associated with the properties previously mentioned. The manuscript also includes a list of several solvents and their properties published in the recent years.
