Calculations of the Parameters and Simulation of the Operation of Nonlinear Surge Arresters for AC Rolling Stock

Abstract
A technique to determine the type and number of varistors has been considered that is based on using the maximum long overvoltage applied to varistors on the condition that the power electric equipment is protected from atmospheric and switching overvoltage that occur in the overhead system of a running electric train. Based on the obtained results, the type of a varistor has been determined; for the varistor of this type, the current–voltage characteristics have been constructed and a computer model has been developed.
