Abstract

With the continuous development of mobile communication technology, 5G millimeter wave band appears in the public view because of its wide bandwidth, narrow beam and strong detection ability, in order to make use of more extensive spectrum resources. To meet the needs of 5G and the curiosity inspired by all kinds of 5G devices using patch antennas learned in the project, we decided to design antennas for 5G millimeter wave n258 band. We compared the performance of two antennas fed by rectangular microstrip patch and coaxial cable, in order to figure out which kinds of feeding way can benefit more in the antennas of 5G devices. The simulation results show that coaxial cable patch antenna has a higher operating frequency band, which covers 24.71GHz-27.32GHz, and microstrip line patch antenna has a higher radiation gain. Besides, the directivity and the radiation efficiency of these two patch antennas shows slight difference which points out that there is only minute difference in terms of transmission efficiency.
