Abstract
The term "anthropocene" refers to mankind’s probably irreversible impact on the biosphere of the planet. It also heralds a renewed interest among anthropologists in environmental-human-relations. The paper argues that German-language European ethnology is called upon to reposition itself vis-a-vis these challenges.
