Abstract

Open communication links in power system networks exhibits unescapable communication latency (CL). The CL deteriorates the performance of the load frequency control (LFC) system by introducing phase lag and affecting closed-loop stability. Using direct synthesis (DS) approach with integral absolute error minimization, a proportional-integral-derivative controller with a single tunable parameter (⋋) is designed for multi-area thermal power systems with CL. The efficacy of the proposed PID controller is examined amid system parametric uncertainties, nonlinearities, step load disturbance, and random load disturbance.
