Development and Opportunities of Perovskite Core–Shell Structures and Encapsulation Materials for Micro‐LED Display Applications

Abstract

Abstract The perovskite nanocrystals (PeNCs) exhibit remarkable optoelectronic properties, holding tremendous potential for semiconductor devices, particularly in micro‐light‐emitting diode (LED) display applications. Despite significant advancements in synthesis protocols, their poor stability under environmental stress remains a major limitation, severely hindering practical implementation and commercialization. Notably, core–shell structural engineering is demonstrated as an effective strategy to mitigate external environmental impacts, enhancing the long‐term optical stability of perovskite cores against humidity, oxygen, and thermal degradation. Concurrently, substantial progress is achieved in surface defect passivation, bandgap tuning, and non‐radiative recombination suppression. This review explores recent successes and challenges in perovskite core–shell materials, systematically analyzing the effects of shell material types and bandgap structures on luminescence stability. State‐of‐the‐art integration methods for PeNCs in micro‐LED devices are summarized, highlighting new opportunities and unresolved challenges associated with core–shell PeNCs. Finally, prospective research directions are discussed to guide ongoing innovation in full‐color micro‐LED displays, providing insights into the potential of NC materials and patterning technologies in this field.
