Abstract
Diseases that lead to progressive degeneration and death of neurons are called neurodegenerative. With time, changes in the patients cognitive, motor, emotional, and memory functioning are more visible and impede on the quality of life (Dugger & Dickson, 2017). Diseases such as Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and Alzheimer’s belong to neurodegenerative diseases (Checkoway et al. 2011). The causes of these diseases are well researched, but the results are often inconclusive. The general consensus between medical experts and researches is that the causation is multifactorial, including genetics, environmental impacts, and lifestyle. Unfortunately, while there are preventative measures and treatment that slows the progression of the disease, a cure for neurodegenerative conditions is not yet available.
