Addiction: A Very Short Introduction
Keith Humphreys
Abstract
Abstract Addiction: A Very Short Introduction presents the basic facts about addiction. What is addiction? How and why do some people become addicted and others do not? This VSI explores the what, why, and how of addiction and its corresponding treatment and societal response. Addiction involves public and personal interests; societal and criminal justice issues; and family, social, and medical responses. The VSI also assesses how laws and regulations on drugs influence the frequency and experience of addiction, and analyses how addiction may change as society continues to evolve.
